Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up living in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) and was stationed in Washington DC. The following year, she was a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. From 1981 onwards, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was named head of the congressional reporters. She was made Chief White House correspondent in 1992. And the chief correspondent for foreign affairs at NBC News. Mitchell participated on the TV program Meet the Press and also host of the show. Mitchell joined the panel during 1988's presidential debates, which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan a former chairman the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was a reporter at the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Her coverage included a variety of important stories like the Iran-Contra controversy, tax and budget reforms, as well as the issue of arms control. She traveled extensively along with President Reagan for summits along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
